SRC Co-hosts Successful Rare Earth Summit

Saskatchewan's leadership in rare earth elements (REE) production, research and education was showcased in Saskatoon on September 20, 2022, as SRC co-hosted a successful Rare Earth Summit alongside Vital Metals Ltd. and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce's Critical Minerals Council.

The Summit welcomed over 200 leaders from the private and public sectors and showcased three significant initiatives that are attracting international attention:
  • Phase one of Vital Metals Ltd.'s Rare Earth Extraction Facility
  • SRC's $55-million, vertically integrated Rare Earth Processing Facility
  • Canadian Chamber of Commerce's Critical Minerals Council met to discuss growing and securing ethically sourced responsible supply chains of critical minerals

Construction Update

SRC's REE team is continuing to advance the Monazite Processing Unit (MPU) as planned and are working to wrap up major capital equipment procurements while detailed engineering work is ongoing. Construction activities for the project include an extension to the existing facility shell which will be completed this year, with major concrete work scheduled to begin in the next couple months.

Procurement efforts continue and SRC achieved another major project milestone in August, with the arrival of the first pieces of process equipment for the MPU. More equipment will be arriving regularly over the next several months.

SRC has now received all of the monazite shipments it procured from Brazil. The REE procurement team is continuing to seek new monazite supplies while Canadian REE resources are developed.
SRC has published a new video highlighting its $55-million, vertically integrated Rare Earth Processing Facility that will include processing, separation and metals stages – a first-of-its-kind in North America – and is catalyzing growth in the rare earth industry.

Building the Rare Earth Element Supply Chain

The REE market is experiencing unprecedented growth. A move toward electric vehicle adoption, net-zero goals at both domestic and international levels, and a secured supply of REEs that is no longer dependent on foreign sources are some of the causes.

Learn about the importance of building an REE supply chain.

SRC Out and About

  • Muhammad Imran, Vice-President, Rare Earth Element Division, presented at the Rare Earth Industry Association (REIA) Conference in Frankfurt, Germany on October 5. SRC also had a booth at this event to showcase its Rare Earth Processing Facility and REE services.
  • Muhammad also presented at the 18th Annual Rare Earths Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 19 on "Opportunities and Challenges: Building the Rare Earth Element Supply Chain."
  • Erin Herman, Director of Project Engineering and Operations, Rare Earth Element Division, presented at the Redefining Electrical Metals Conference in Calgary, Alberta on September 20. The conference brought together Canadian mining executives, geoscientists and subject matter experts.
